Texan Astronaut Michael Fossum Takes New ZZ Top Song "Flyin' High" Into Space

Posted: Jun 07, 2011

NASA Astronaut Michael Fossum, who grew up in McAllen, TX and got his engineering degree at Texas A&M, just left on a space mission little more than two hours ago.  Fossum is traveling in a Russian space vehicle as part of a multinational crew going to the International Space Station.  To shake things up, Fossum brought a little taste of his home state's music with him.

Having been personal friends for some time with ZZ Top, the band gave Fossum a copy of "Flyin' High", a new song that will be on ZZ Top's forthcoming album.

This isn't the first time Fossum took ZZ Top into space with him.  He played under pressure on the Space Shuttle Discovery back in 2008.

We wish Fossum and his fellow crew members good luck on their mission and a safe return home.  We also are excited that new ZZ Top music may be just around the corner.  It has been almost a decade since the band has released an album of new material, and the world is more than ready.

We guess ZZ Top decided to bypass the world that awaits and debut their music to the universe at large.  That's thinking big!
