The Latest From the Great Ike Stubblefield
I conducted a brief interview this morning with the great Ike Stubblefield. Ike played with the Temptations, Eric Clapton, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, B.B. King, Ike & Tina Turner, the Pointer Sisters, Marvin Gaye, Rod Stewart, Derek Trucks, Col. Bruce Hampton, Jimmy Herring, Traffic's Jim Capaldi, Phil Spector, Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder among many others.
Ike recently headlined the Savannah Music Festival. This week he performs at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Ike is also a cancer survivor. He recently played organ and keyboard on 9 songs during a Cee Lo Green recording session.
Ike's current release--Old Souls On New Shoes, will be available at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Ike recorded Old Souls in 2008 at Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta. This morning Ike told me this about Old Souls On New Shoes:
"It's kind of an R & B, funk-rock record with vocals on a couple of tracks." Yonrico Scott, Derek Stacks and the Average White Band's Freddy V play on this album. Ike's new studio disc, called All Over The Place, hits the streets in late May.
Ike revealed this to me about his new album: "That's the one I'm really excited about. It's ten songs with two instrumentals. This one was recorded in my studio. It's being mixed now. It will be out in late May." Derek Trucks, Otiel & Kofi Burbridge, Ralph Roddenberry and Jimmy Herring a few of the musical guests on Ike Stubblefield's All Over The Place.
Look for reviews and full on interview with Ike Stubblefield this summer...
