Best Grammys in Years
Posted: Feb 09, 2009When I sat down in front of the boob tube last night to watch the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, I had honestly braced myself for a major letdown. After all, the past few years have featured little excitement and very little for old rock and rollers like me to get off on.
Wellsir, I was more than pleasantly surprised. From the very beginning of the program, seeing people like Paul McCartney and Robert Plant in the crowd did my heart good.
The big thing about this year’s edition of the Grammys was the seemingly non-stop lineup of live performances. They kept it interesting. Beginning with an amazing performance from U2, the bar had been set pretty high.
Rather than ramble on and on, I thought I’d do my favorite thing. Make a list. So below, in no particular order, are what I felt to be the high points of an excellent, almost 1960’s vibe drenched program. (Hey, it is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.)
• Paul McCartney and The Foo Fighters bringing back Beatlemania and earning a standing ovation with “I Saw Her Standing There.” Wow. One of the first 45 records I ever owned. I was grinning like a stuck possum.
• Seeing Delaney Bramlett and Jerry Reed, among others, in short film clips paying tribute to fallen stars.
• U2 kicking it live with “Get On Your Boots.” Did you know those Irish rovers have won 22 Grammys so far?
• Coldplay’s jam up performance, with a cameo by Jay Z. Until now, I hadn’t paid them much attention, but they earned a new fan last night.
• Kid Rock’s medley of songs from his album Rock and Roll Jesus. Especially the shout out dedication to the memory of Billy Powell! The show’s number one Southern Rock moment.
• Jennifer Nettles accepting an award for Sugarland, overcome with excitement and looking Paul McCartney in the eye and thanking him.
• Sugarland’s performance with British singer Adelle. Adelle is another great artist I am glad to have finally heard, and her awards speech was priceless.
• Carrie Underwood’s rockin’ country song with the hot female lead guitarist ripping it up like Eddie Van Halen.
• The Four Tops Tribute with Smokey Robinson, Jamie Fox, Ne-Yo and the soul survivor of the Tops, Abdul "Duke" Fakir, just blew the roof off of that sucka.
• Robert Plant, Alison Krauss and T. Bone Burnette playing “Rich Woman,” and all of their fun awards acceptance speeches, including Best Album of the Year.
• Al Green, along with Boys II Men and Justin Timberlake doing “Let’s Stay Together.” Even Justin couldn’t detract from my enjoyment of the Rev. Al.
• Jennifer Hudson sounded like a million bucks, singing “You Pulled Me Through,” singing through the tears of heartbreak 2008 brought her.
• Kenny Chesney’s acoustic “Better as a Memory.”
• Radiohead’s rocking performance with the University of Southern California Marching Band. Those wacky guys. And they were introduced by actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
• A tribute to Bo Diddley, featuring B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Keith Urban and John Mayer.
• Neil Diamond belting out “Sweet Caroline.” Flashbacks to the summer I played his Hot August Night over and over again.
Good show. But they could have used some Southern Rock.

Everyone need a wholesale pen and all of us hold a wholesale umbrella in case of the bad weather, so they are good tools to promote your new brand. A stress ball is a good tool to release stress.

Lots of folks feel that way Copperhead... ME, I am selective with Bobby. Some of his stuff I dig, some not. It's all subjective.
