Weekend Notes and Tom Dowd On Ronnie Van Zant

Posted: Feb 08, 2008

I really hope everyone is enjoying the new look of GRITZ, as well as our “Mothership” Swampland.com. The powers that be have worked really hard for months on the redesign, and I for one am very pleased with the results. I hope you feel the same.

We at Swampland would like to send out our deepest sympathies to Dennis and Lynda Winters (Winters Brothers Band) on the loss this week of Lynda’s Mother. May the Lord be with you during your time of loss.

Once again I want to thank everyone for the calls, letters and e-mails during my recent health bout. The good news is, I seem to be close to normal again, with minimal infection in my leg still working it’s way out. Thanks for sharing the love and caring.

We have some pretty exciting interviews coming soon to Gritz, including the legendary Delaney Bramlett; Southern Rock icon Henry Paul; upcoming country star Candy Coburn; and others. Look for guest blogs soon from some of the biggest stars of the Southern Rock era, as well as reviews of great new albums by Paul Thorn, Delaney Bramlett, and Leann Rimes among others.

I wanted to share a video from YouTube that was shot by our friends Tony Beazley and Rick Broyles who have the ultimate Lynyrd Skynyrd documentary coming out soon. It is the late Tom Dowd, telling one of his great stories about Ronnie Van Zant. Enjoy.

Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.

Great story. Ronnie was the very best. I'll never forget meeting him in 76. An angel then. An angel now.

So glad you are better Michael. I met you at the Paul Thorn show in Rome. DO you have Paul's new album? Are you planning a review??
