SEC Daily Fever: Eligibility of Prized Vol Recruit Under NCAA Scrutiny

The highly-publicized recruitment of Tennessee’s Bryce Brown has taken an interesting turn a few weeks before the top running back is set to make his debut in Knoxville.

The NCAA is investigating school visits that Brown (and others) took during his sophomore year of high school, and they have left Brown’s eligibility in question. The Vols have filed an appeal and are awaiting word from the NCAA on the next step.

The investigation started in the Spring and has nothing to do with Tennessee’s recruitment of Brown. As is the case with many NCAA issues, the timing could not be worse as they the bureaucratic process rolls along slowly.

Often listed as one of the best high school players in the country, Brown had originally committed to Miami.  His signing at Tennessee was one of the big early wins for Lane Kiffin's new staff in Knoxville. Brown is also expected to be a featured part of the Vols new offensive attack.

As Kiffin prepares his team for a tough SEC season ahead, knowing Brown's status will be key in the progress of his young team.
