ACC Daily Fever: Georgia Tech Beats Clemson in a Thriller

Posted: Dec 07, 2009

It may not have been the most watched game on Saturday, but the ACC Championship Game in Jacksonville was the most exciting.

Georgia Tech answered a Clemson comeback with a late game-winning drive to take the Title 39-34. The Yellow Jackets had 469 total yards and controlled the time of possession, but had to score in the final minutes to overcome the 233 rush yards and 4 touchdowns of the Tigers' C.J. Spiller.

Paul Johnson capped his second year in Atlanta by winning the ACC crown and sending Tech to the Orange Bowl. It's amazing how fast he has  upped the profile of the GT program and how well his offense has worked at the major D1 level. The Johnson story is a good one, and he seems to have the Jackets positioned to be a factor in hte ACC for the forseeable future.

As for Clemson, they had a solid first season under Dabo Swinney after a 2-3 start. The Tigers fell just short of the Title with Spiller (who deserves serious Heisman consideration) leading the way.
