A Modern Legacy of America's Finest Archivists

A treasure trove of old, obscure American music exists out there. Bits and pieces of lost American culture preserved between the grooves waits for any listener's ear. This Alan Lomax article made me think of contemporary archivists such as Dust-To-Digital's Lance Ledbetter, and Music Maker Relief Foundation's Tim Duffy.

Alan Lomax stands as one of America's seminal archivists and folklorists. He began by recording songs played by prisoners and sharecroppers in the south. He worked with artists such as Muddy Waters, Reverend Gary Davis and Zora Neale Hurston to only mention a few. Harry Smith orchestrated the influential Anthology of American Music in 1952.
