John Bell On Bonnaroo Ten Years Later
The 2011 Bonnaroo Festival begins on June 9. The four-day, multi-stage camping festival held on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, celebrates its 10th year.
This year's formidable line-up includes Widespread Panic, Buffalo Springfield, The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, Robert Plant & Band of Joy, Iron & Wine, Dr. John & The Meters, Allison Krauss & Union Station, Gregg Allman and many more.
Last week, Widespread Panic's John Bell told me they were looking forward to 2011 Bonnaroo, and remembered how Panic played an instrumental role in the early days of the now prestigious festival:
"Yes, we've always closed Bonnaroo--not necessarily closing Sunday, but the first couple of years they had us headlining Friday and Saturday night. They were getting on their feet. That was ten years ago now. That was a good way to get it started. We had some good traffic coming our way, and that helped. We always look forward to it..."
Should be interesting...
