This weekend members of Widespread Panic will play several gigs. On Thursday, Widespread Panic drummer Todd Nance will perform in Athens, Georgia, with his new band, The Romper Stompers. The band includes Nance, Bloodkin’s Daniel Hutchens, William Tonks and Jon Mills.
Today William Tonks elaborated on the nature of this ‘super-group’: “Get this—we now know 13 songs! That’s seven more than we ever played before…Oh, what, pray, tell, is a Romper Stomper? If you’ll remember, it was these fun upside down plastic buckets on strings that you step onto, and romp and stomp around the house/yard/frozen pond, etc. But we named the new rock-music-for-kids (and developmentally immature grown-ups like us) project after that fun product and now there are songs about books, tree houses, daffodils, artists and such, coupled with a choice cover or three, and off to the races…”
The next day, The Romper Stompers fly to Colorado for a string of shows. On December 11, Panic’s John Bell and John Hermann will perform at Warren Haynes’ 22nd Annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, North Carolina. Other performers at the Christmas Jam this year include The Warren Haynes Band, The Steve Miller Band, Gregg Allman, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Cody Dickinson, Kevn Kinney, Audley Freed, Ivan Neville and others.
Also, congratulations to John Keane on his Grammy nomination for producing Panic’s latest studio album, Dirty Side Down. Last, but not least, Panic guitarist Jimmy Herring has been out on the road with his band. This weekend they play Atlanta and Birmingham…
