ACC Daily Fever: Georgia Tech Flops in Second Straight Postseason

"Dance with the one that brung you” was a favorite expression of legendary University of Texas football coach Darrell Royal. When applying that phrase to Georgia Tech, it's obvious that their option running game has worked very well in Paul Johnson's two seasons in Atlanta. However, that same running has been stopped (17 points combined in their last two Bowl Games) by LSU and Iowa in the postseason.

This year Tech's offense-and the fans-were frozen out in the Orange Bowl, as the Yellow Jackets lost to a Hawkeye team that many thought they would defeat. We're not sugesting that Johnson needs to get away from the offense that won an ACC Title, but Tech will need some tweaks to fare better in their bowl games when solid clubs have a month to prepare.

Despite another postseason thud, it was a solid year for Johnson's program. The Yellow Jackets' recent ascent, the consistency of stalwart Virginia Tech, and the recruiting currently happening at Florida State, Miami, UNC and Clemson all bode well for the league's future. To reach the conference's goal of playing with the SECs and Big 12s of the world, the traditional powers in Florida will need to get back to national prominence, while a team like Georgia Tech just adds to the ACC momentum.
