Looking Back at 2009

On the last day of 2009, I thought it only made sense to recount the ten most imortant events of the year from the GRITZ perspective.

1. The Allman Brothers Band 40th Anniversary Beacon Run - History was made with the largest line up of guest stars in ABB history. Honorable Mention goes to Butch Trucks and his Moogis for bringing it all into our homes live as it happened.

2. The Allman Brothers Band Museum Opens - The Big House in Macon houses the most killer ABB archives anywhere.

3. The Final Winters Brothers Band Summer Jam - After 20 years the band calls it quits. Well, the summer jam anyway. We sure will miss it!

4. Dickey Betts Retires From The Road - The road goes on forever, but the ramblin' man is taking a much deserved break.

5. The Angelus Golf Tornament and Country Concert Benefit - Always fun, but this year the Charlie Daniels Band all star jam was amazing, and then we had a wrestling exhibition. Yeah baby!

6. The Outlaws Tour - Nothing but good reports on Henry Paul, Billy Crain and the boys road shows.

7. Tommy Crain and the Crosstown Allstars Get New Bassist - Following the death of bassist Kerry Creasy, Crain and company landed a star bassist in Jack Hall of Wet Willie.

8. Kris Kristofferson's Best Album in Years - Kris released "Closer to the Bone," stripped down and from the heart.

9. Billy Gibbons Joins Jeff Beck to Pay Tribute to Hendrix - Just one great part of a great Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annicersary Concert on HBO. "Foxey Lady" rocked.

10. Boxmasters Hit Number One - Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters reached the top spot on the Americana charts with their super album "Modbilly."

That ABB Beacon run was seriously history. I am so happy I got to be there for clapton both nights and watch the rest on moogis.
