SEC Daily Fever: Gator Fans not feeling the Sugar Bowl after SEC Title Loss

Posted: Dec 21, 2009

It currently looks like Florida fans are not very fired up for the Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati. As we approach Christmas, the Gators are 5,000 tickets short of selling out their school allotment of 17,500. UF fans tend to travel well, especially with games played in the South, but their disinterest in heading to New Orleans shows us the downside of the conference title games.

As this exact time a season ago, the Sugar Bowl hosted an Alabama team that left their 12-0 record and their hearts in Atlanta. The Tide barely showed up in New Orleans and consequently lost to Utah. The Gators are now the ones in that the same disappointed scenario as they prepare for the Bearcats. Along with dealing with the coaching changes (although defensive coordinator Charlie Strong will stay through the bowl game) and discipline issues, Urban Meyer is facing the challenge of getting his Florida troops mentally ready for their postseason contest.

While losing the SEC Championship Game obviously ended their hopes of another National Title, the Gators still have a chance to finish 13-1 and in the Top 5. Their preparation and mental focus this month will be difference in a solid finale or a possible shocker like Alabama experienced last year.

Honorable Mention SEC Headlines:

South Carolina’s Garcia is very focused for this year’s bowl game

UGA still looking for new defensive coordinator
