SEC Daily Fever: Brooks receives accolade for another solid season at Kentucky

Posted: Dec 18, 2009

The website collegefootballnews.com had a very interesting choice for their conference Coach of the Year- Rich Brooks of Kentucky. Most media will vote for Nick Saban after another 12-0 regular season, but you have to respect what the veteran Brooks has been able to get done in Lexington. This season saw UK struggle with quarterback issues and key injuries, but they still managed a 7-5 record and their fourth straight bowl appearance (a school record).

The Wildcats won three SEC road games (Auburn, Vanderbilt and Georgia) for the first time since 1977, and they currently have the school record for consecutive non-conference wins with eighteen. UK has not had four straight winning seasons since their solid run in the '50s under Bear Bryant and Blanton Collier.

Kentucky ’s improvement under Brooks goes to show why this league is the toughest in the country year-in and year-out. The Wildcats will now try and win their fourth postseason game in four years against Clemson in the Music City Bowl.
