SEC Daily Fever: Kiffin Must Replace Some Top Recruiters

Posted: Dec 09, 2009

A constant theme on Tribal Fever has been the importance of recruiting, and how all of the top teams in the conference recruit at the highest level.

When Lane Kiffin and his staff were hired, Tennessee made it clear how high a priority that big-time recruiting was going to be in getting the Vols back to the upper echelon of the SEC. Kiffin and his staff did quite well in a short period of time last January and were able to bring in several top prospects.

Despite mostly good news on the recruiting front, Kiffin now faces a potential downside of having a staff full of top coaches and that is that other bosses will come after them. The Vols lost two top recruiting assistants this week in Frank Wilson to LSU and Eddie Gran to Florida State. Wilson is a New Orleans native, and he took a promotion to Les Miles’ staff when Larry Porter left to coach Memphis. Gran is an ace recruiter in South Florida and should be a great fit on Jimbo Fisher’s new staff.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of SEC programs, and coaches who produce results will always be in high demand.
