ACC Daily Fever: Title Game Needs Buzz, Audience

Posted: Dec 04, 2009

The buzz around Atlanta (and the nation) is at a fever pitch for the SEC Title game. Big 12 Country (along with very interested fans at TCU and Cincinnati) can't wait to see if Texas can finish off Nebraska or if the Huskers can pull the upset. The hype in Tampa? Well, that's about the SEC Game as well.

Unfortunately for Georgia Tech and Clemson, the feeling around the South is that the ACC Title tilt will lack serious interest from fans in the region.

The game in Tampa a year ago sold well over 50,000 tickets, but less than 30,000 of those were actually used. Couple that with the fact that both teams are coming off losses and it could be a recipe for disaster. Additionally, the game will air on television at the exact same time at the Big 12 Game.

The ACC Championship will move to Charlotte on 2010 and 2011, and we'll have to see if that helps interest. Obviously having two power teams competing on a national scale would be the best remedy.
