ACC Daily Fever: Gator Bowl Decision Looms for League and Bobby Bowden

There is a current debate brewing over the pecking order of ACC bowl-eligible teams and where they may head for the postseason.

The most interesting scenario is that of the Gator Bowl, who seems to trying to match Florida State (in Bobby Bowden's last game) and West Virginia (his former school). Bowden coached in Morgantown for six years in the early ‘70s before settling in Tallahassee in 1976.

This piece in the Florida Times-Union does a good job of explaining the process and the league's "one loss rule" for bowl selections. It looks like the Jacksonville may get to host Bowden's last game with one possible exception"

The only way the Gator Bowl cannot take Florida State is if the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, which selects ahead of the Gator, takes the ACC championship game loser. In that case, the one-loss rule does come into play for the Gator, and the game would likely invite Virginia Tech.

There would be a nice feel to a Seminoles-Mountaineers matchup in the Sunshine State, and it seems like a classic final stage for Bowden and his legacy.
