SEC Daily Fever: Could Florida and Alabama Play Twice?

Posted: Dec 01, 2009

It’s time to address the question on the minds of many college football fans- if Texas loses in the Big 12 Championship Game and the SEC Game is a close one, could we see a Florida-Alabama rematch in the BCS Title Game? The answer is Yes, but it seems fairly unlikely.

The computers realize the strength of the SEC and would make a rematch possible. However, the key would be the poll voters and how far they would drop the Title game loser.

Under our scenario, Texas would have lost so that would leave undefeated teams in TCU, Cincinnati (if they get by Pittsburgh this weekend), and Boise State. If the voters dropped the 1-loss SEC team to third overall, then Bama or Florida would have a shot at finishing #2 in the BCS formula.

However, it’s hard to see voters from all over the country not purposely dropping a 1-loss SEC club to # 4 or 5 overall to make sure a rematch does not occur.
