ACC Daily Fever: Clashes with SEC Rivals Could Boost League's Rep

Posted: Nov 24, 2009

The ACC has a chance to improve its national perception this weekend with three games against the SEC. And at first glance, the matchups look very favorable for the conference to go 2-1 in those rivalry contests. Obviously Florida will be heavily favored to beat Florida State, but the 'Noles do have an offense that could pull off a stunner.

It's the other two rivalry games that the league needs to win to make up for some of their early-season losses. Georgia Tech shocked Georgia last year in Athens, but there will be no surprise in this game if the Yellow Jackets run all over the Bulldogs defense. With UGA's lack of defense and discipline in 2009, the surprise in this one may be if Paul Johnson's team does not score 40 points.

Clemson will look to beat South Carolina for the third straight year, and the Tigers find themselves in a similar position to Georgia Tech. Both are sky-high after claiming their respective Divisions, and both would love to beat their in-state rival.

It would not look good for either of the two teams in the ACC Title Game to enter the contest coming off an upset loss to an SEC squad having an average year. The Tigers and Yellow Jackets need to take care of business for their league and for recruiting power in their home states.

We've been waiting the the ACC to play a little catch up to their SEC brethren.  2009 could be the year in which the ACC finally makes some significant strides towards that goal.
