ACC Daily Fever: FSU Gets Much Needed Victory

Things looked bleak last week for a Florida State squad that needed a win at Wake Forest to keep their bowl hopes alive. The Demon Deacons had beaten the 'Noles three years in a row, and FSU entered the game having to give redshirt freshman quarterback E.J. Manuel his first career start in place of the injured Christian Ponder. In the middle of questions about Coach Bobby Bowden's future, the Seminoles rallied behind their run game and beat Wake 41-28.

The debate on Bowden coaching in 2010 and beyond will continue through the offseason, but at least

FSU now has the chance to continue a couple of impressive streaks.

The Tallahassee-Democrat has the details:

If the 5-5 Seminoles can defeat Maryland on Saturday (the game time has been set for noon) they will extend their national-best bowl streak to 28 straight seasons. If they do beat the Terrapins and then win the bowl game (or beat No. 1 Florida in the regular-season finale), it will extend the streak of consecutive winning seasons to 33.

Bowden hasn't had a losing campaign since his first one in Tallahassee, back in 1976.

With the Gators being #1 in the nation, Florida State will need to rally again and make sure they are ready to play against Maryland. It's hard to say what the FSU staff will look like next year, but the winter will be much more pleasant for the fan base if the 'Noles make the postseason once again.
