ACC Daily Fever: Butch Davis Stays Unbeaten Against His Former School

Posted: Nov 16, 2009

When North Carolina blew a 24-6 second-half against Florida State and dropped to 0-3 in the conference, there were some questions around Chapel Hill about which direction the program was going. However, the Tar Heels have quelled fan base fears with three straight wins, including two victories against Top 20 opponents Virginia Tech and Miami.

Butch Davis’ team had all the answers against his old team (now 3-0 vs. the Hurricanes ), especially on defense where the Tar Heels picked off four Jacory Harris passes and returned two for touchdowns. The end result was a 33-24 victory as UNC became bowl eligible. North Carolina has not been to consecutive bowl games since 1998, so now Heel fans will have multiple sports to cheer for in late December.

As for the 'Canes, they are still in the middle of a nice season at 7-3. But as UNC beat them for the third straight time, you have to wonder how confident Miami fans are in Randy Shannon as he battles Davis, Frank Beamer, and Paul Johnson for Coastal Division supremacy each season.
