ACC Daily Fever: Florida State Loses Ponder For The Year

Posted: Nov 10, 2009

Florida State suffered a devastating blow this week with the news that quarterback Christian Ponder is out for the rest of the season with a separated shoulder.

Redshirt freshman E.J. Manuel is expected to start at Wake Forest in a game that should determine if the Noles can make a bowl game and avoid their first losing season since 1976. Wake showed a lot of fight in taking Georgia Tech to overtime last Saturday, and Jim Grobe’s squad has beaten Bobby Bowden’s crew three years in a row.

Ponder had been the bright spot for FSU in carrying the offense with 14 TD passes.  If he were on any FSU team from ten years ago, Ponder would be a Heisman candidate.  He still might be in 2010 if the Noles can get their overall act together.

With Mickey Andrews’ defense ranked 106th in the nation, it has been the Seminole offense that has allowed Florida State to get the four wins they currently have. Andrews has already announced his retirement, but it will be quite the interesting offseason with the other coaches- especially if FSU misses the postseason.
