SEC Daily Fever: Alabama Beats LSU, Wins West

Alabama won a physical 24-15 battle against LSU on Saturday, and they now have cemented the highly-anticipated SEC Championship Game rematch with Florida. The Tide defense and running game was solid like usual, and they finally got a big play in the passing game when Julio Jones scored on a 73-yard game-winning touchdown with ten minutes to go.

It was a brutal loss for the Tigers, who suffered several injuries to key players. Running back Charles Scott is out for the season with fractured clavicle. Star corner Patrick Peterson was in and out of the game, and quarterback Jordan Jefferson suffered multiple injuries and was missed during crunch time.

The game was also marred by another critical missed call. With seven minutes to go, Peterson intercepted a pass with LSU trailing by only six. The referees on the field mistakenly ruled it an incompletion, but even worse was the replay official’s botched call. Once again, SEC referees are at the heart of a controversy (on another call that went Bama’s way) and once again, football fans were robbed of an exciting finish. But as long as Les Miles has no comment, Mike Slive and the league office will be fine.
