ACC Daily Fever: Georgia Tech Surges Towards Elite Status

Posted: Nov 02, 2009

As much of the league struggles for respectability, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets continue to look impressive.

On a night where Paul Johnson’s club did not play their best game at Vanderbilt, they were still able to shake off a bad half and put away the Commodores 56-31.

After trailing 31-28 in the middle of the third quarter, the Jackets cranked up both the offense and the defense to finish the game with 28 unanswered points.  Tech is now in a position where they only have to win against Wake Forest and at Duke to claim the Coastal Division title.

Johnson’s running attack has taken the league by storm in just his second season in Atlanta, and the Jackets have to be heavily favored to represent the conference in the BCS.  (Although they shouldn't underestimate Clemson as a possible ACC Championship opponent.)

As Johnson recruits more players to fit in his unique scheme, look for Georgia Tech to continue to give defensive coordinators sleepless nights and to compete for more ACC titles.

Georgia Tech also has a great chance to win its second straight game against the struggling Georgia Bulldogs which would also give the Jackets three SEC wins this season as well if you add in Miss State and Vandy.  Tech's only loss come bowl time may be to a very good, but young Miami team who also seems ready to turn the corner.

With Georgia Tech rolling and Miami emerging, the ACC finally seems ready to make a BCS statement.
