ACC Daily Fever: Will Clemson Ever Become A Dominant ACC Force?

Posted: Oct 20, 2009

Clemson made a statement last Saturday with their resounding 38-3 win over Wake Forest. It showed that they have the talent to be a heavy player in the ACC and could be a serious contender for the Atlantic Division title.

However, Clemson fans have been down this road before.  Just two weeks prior, the Tigers dropped to 2-3 on the season with a 24-21 loss at Maryland, and the fan base was faced with the prospect of another disappointing year in Dabo Swinney’s first full season as head coach.

Tommy Bowden was let go after years of underachieving with a solid roster, and now his former assistant Swinney will try to lead the program away from their past pitfalls. A very telling statistic is that Clemson has eight losses in their past nine games decided by a touchdown or less.

Swinney and his staff must turn that around if the Tigers are going to be the factor that their recruiting rankings suggest they should be. The trip to Miami this weekend will show if the Tigers will play to their potential or continue to ride the rollercoaster of mediocrity.
