SEC Daily Fever: Can LSU Still Challenge For the West Crown?

Posted: Oct 15, 2009

We wrote earlier this week that it’s beginning to look more and more like a Florida-Alabama rematch in the SEC Title Game. The one team that seems to have the talent on both sides of the ball to change that result is LSU.

The Tigers were not able to beat the Gators but could still be a factor in the West if they can fix their struggling offense. Les Miles’ bunch will have two weeks to figure out what’s wrong with a unit that could only muster 162 total yards against Florida.

The most important aspect missing from the Tigers’ offense in ’09 has been the ability to run the ball. Charles Scott had 18 touchdowns on the ground a year ago, but only has two scores through six games this season. LSU is averaging almost a yard less per carry than they did last year, and that will not get it done against the elite defenses of the SEC.

If Miles and staff can find an offensive remedy before the Auburn game, LSU can be a player in the league race. If not, the Bama-Florida rematch will be inevitable.

Honorable Mention SEC Headlines:

Georgia will not open with Tech

Brooks will not name QB starter
