SEC Daily Fever: Snead and Ole Miss Are Struggling

Posted: Oct 14, 2009

Along with Georgia, one of the most frustrated fan bases in the league at the halfway point has to be that of Ole Miss. Their record will not look that bad after Saturday’s game with UAB (4-2 assuming a Rebs win), but the expectations for this season were very high in Oxford.

One of the puzzling aspects of the Ole Miss season has been the regression in the play of senior quarterback Jevan Snead.

He struggled in the Thursday night, national television game at South Carolina and has thrown seven interceptions in the two games since that first loss. Snead must find a way to repeat his stellar second half of the season from a year ago if the Rebels want to excite their fan base once again.

Starting next week, Houston Nutt’s club faces a five week stretch that includes games with Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU.  Three of four of these are SEC West teams that would like nothing more than to show that they are ahead of the Rebels in the pecking order.

The result of that slate will go a long way in determining the perception of the Ole Miss program in a year that at one point looked to be groundbreaking.  Now, the Rebels are just hoping to stay as a top tier team.
