ACC Daily Fever: NC State's Tom O'Brien Needs To Beat Former Team

Posted: Oct 14, 2009

It’s been a year full of frustration in the ACC, and one team that has showed a surprising lack of progress is NC State.

Coming off a blowout loss at home to Duke, the Wolfpack now face a tough trip to Boston College. O’Brien coached ten years at BC, where after two losing campaigns, his Eagles ran off a string of eight straight winning seasons.

The progress has not been quite as fast in Raleigh. After going 11-14 in his first two years at State, O’Brien has seen his club go 3-3 at the halfway point this season. The catch is that only one of those wins is on the FBS level, a 21-point comeback victory over Pitt.

With trips to Tallahassee and Blacksburg later in the schedule, grabbing a big win against his former school is what O’Brien needs to give his fan base the confidence that progress is underway with the Wolfpack.

NC State looked to be a school that might make a leap in 2009, but so far, they have not shown anything quite like that yet.  There's still a long way to go this season, but any turn around must start now.
