ACC Daily Fever: Florida State Should Focus on Saving Its Conference Season

The question this week in the ACC is - which Florida State team will show up at Boston College?

Two games ago, the Noles dismantled a quality BYU squad on the road by scoring 54 points and racking up 313 rush yards. Last Saturday FSU was easily handled by South Florida, while only scoring seven points at home and totaling 19 yards on the ground.

BC Coach Frank Spaziani is not focusing on Florida State’s struggles, but instead on the athleticism of Bobby Bowden’s club. While the Seminoles may be reeling from their last loss, the reality is that a win in Chestnut Hill would still put them in a great position to win the fairly weak Atlantic Division.

Many supporters of FSU are growing more and more weary of the lack of consistency that seems to plague the Noles from week to week. If State wants to truly be back, a victory at Boston College seems like a must with Georgia Tech and North Carolina next on the schedule.

It might be hard for Noles fans used to the days of annual top 5 finishes to focus on the ACC Atlantic, but it seems to us that FSU can create consistency by setting attainable goals and realizing them.  Yes, the Noles haven't been a national player in years, but it is even more amazing that they've only had ONE appearance in the ACC title game and that was in its inaugural year - four years ago!

If FSU were to win out and Miami and USF finish strong as well, 2009 might be a breakthrough year for the Noles.  They might face a top ten Virginia Tech team in Tampa for the ACC Championship having losses only to Miami and USF who might be undefeated and Big East champ by season's end.  That is the recipe for a top ten finish and a BCS bowl berth.

This type of season is well within the Noles reach if they can only regain their focus and composure.
