SEC Daily Fever: Is Bama the league's top dog?

Florida still has the #1 spot in the national polls, but many believe Alabama is staking a claim as the best team in the conference. 

With their 35-7 drubbing of Arkansas, the Crimson Tide seems to be as good as any team in the country in all phases of the game.

The Bama defense was highly touted coming into the season, and they were ready for the Arkansas offense in a big way as they held the Hogs under 300 total yards. Maybe the most encouraging aspect of Saturday’s thrashing was the 291 passing yards and three touchdowns for quarterback Greg McElroy. If he can add a passing threat to the Tide’s solid running game and defense, Nick Saban’s club will be difficult for anyone to beat.

Alabama did suffer one major blow in the game as starting linebacker Dont’a Hightower was lost to an injured left knee. But as much as he’ll be missed, Bama’s strong recruiting allows them to put another stud in his place. As they prepare for trips to Lexington and Oxford, the Tide looks as good as anyone after the first month of football.
