SEC Daily Fever: Rebels-Gamecocks Ready To Prove It in Primetime

Posted: Sep 24, 2009

It should be a great Thursday night national television matchup between Ole Miss and South Carolina, two teams that have a lot to prove.

For the Rebels, it’s a chance to show the country that they are worthy of their #4 ranking by beating a solid SEC foes in a tough environment. Blowing out Memphis and Southeastern Louisiana is one thing, but for Houston Nutt’s club to win at Williams-Brice Stadium would say a lot before they get into the meat of the SEC West schedule.

For the Gamecocks, it’s an opportunity to show that their offensive improvement since the NC State game is for real and that they are finally turning the corner under Steve Spurrier. We all know the ole Ball Coach has a subpar SEC record since he arrived in Columbia, and a victory over a Top 5 club like Ole Miss would go a long way in exciting the hungry Gamecocks fan base.

Every year, there are SEC programs that have question marks all over them.  No one knows what to make of them until they get on the field.  One thing is for sure, one of these two coaches will be walking away a loser wondering where the promise of his 2009 season went.

It's a cruel fact, but that's SEC football.
