SEC Daily Fever: New Coaches Show Early Promise

Posted: Sep 21, 2009

SEC Daily Fever is the top SEC story of the day. Disagree? Let us know.

The story of the early SEC season continues to be the impact of the new coaches.

We already knew the strength of the top teams in the league (Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, and LSU all in the Top 7 in the country), but the middle to lower squads are showing signs of improvement as well.

Auburn had a major comeback victory over West Virginia, as Tiger fans are thrilled with finally having an effective offense. Gene Chizik’s team, who should be ranked soon, is off to a great start that will definitely quiet the many critics of his hiring.

Mississippi State got a nice win in at Vandy in Dan Mullen’s first road game, as the defense held the Commodores to a paltry 157 total yards.

Tennessee lost in their much-hyped game at Florida, but the Vols showed they are moving in the right direction. Lane Kiffin’s squad broke Tim Tebow’s streak of 30 consecutive games with a TD pass and they look to be forming a positive attitude despite their undermanned roster.

The improvement of those three teams shows why the SEC continues to be the top conference in college football. There are just no easy trips in this league.
