ACC Daily Fever: Canes Looking Like A National Power Again

What a difference a year makes and what a difference the Miami coaching changes made in their convincing 33-17 victory over Georgia Tech.

Both of the new Miami coordinators made a huge impression as the Canes cruised to victory. Mark Whipple’s offense had receivers running free all night, and emerging star quarterback Jacory Harris hit them with ease throughout the game.

On defense, John Lovett had his unit swarming Tech ball carriers in a contest that was the polar opposite of last year’s affair.

Tech has some serious issues on defense that they will have to address if they want to compete for the Coastal Division title. They will also have to deal with an injury to tailback Jonathan Dwyer, who did not play in the second half.

The Canes are starting to look like Miami teams of old with speed to burn on both sides of the ball.  Jacory Harris is an absolute revelation.  Even in their glory days of old, the Canes have never had a QB so athletic and so dangerous.

What looked like a brutal opening month is turning into a huge momentum builder for ‘The U’, as the new coordinators have them playing at a high level and looking like contenders for an ACC crown.

If the Canes can go to Virginia Tech next week and beat the ACC pre-season favorite on their home turf, the following week the Canes host Oklahoma who is expecting to get Sam Bradford back for the game.  

The Miami-Oklahoma match up might end being one of 2009's signature games. 

For the ACC, it has to feel good.  A Miami return to glory is just what the conference needs and expected when Miami joins a few years ago.
