What a game between Georgia and South Carolina.

With their recent history, we all expected a low scoring, defensive affair. Instead, we saw a wild 41-37 thriller with tons of offense as well as a kickoff return TD, an interception for a TD, a safety, a blocked extra point and 24 penalties. Both coaches, with their offensive backgrounds, had to take some positives out of seeing their respective quarterbacks make several big plays after lackluster opening games.

It was a must-win for the Bulldogs. With South Carolina driving at the end of the game, Georgia faced the possibility of their first 0-2 start since 1996 with a trip to Arkansas looming. Mark Richt would have felt some serious heat in Athens with a loss, but his team found a way to ‘survive and advance’.

It was a painful loss for the Gamecocks, but the fans (and Steve Spurrier) have to be thrilled with Stephen Garcia’s 313 passing yards and two touchdowns. Getting the passing game going has been very tough for the ole ball Coach during his tenure in Columbia, and Saturday night’s results could be a sign of momentum. If South Carolina can get some contribution from their running game, they can become a tough SEC foe once again.

Games like these define a season for both teams.  Neither team is out of the hunt yet, and both coaches should have seen more positives than negatives in a game like that.
