SEC Daily Fever: Georgia & South Carolina Ready Defenses For A Tight Game

Mark Richt and Steve Spurrier are both offensive-minded coaches, but it looks like they have to rely on their defenses to win early in 2009.

Along that line, the recent history of this game says the South Carolina-Georgia matchup will be a low-scoring defensive battle.  Both teams struggled with quarterback play in their openers, and how Stephen Garcia and Joe Cox perform Saturday will probably determine the outcome.

The Gamecocks won a 16-12 contest the last time they plated in Athens, while the Bulldogs won 14-7 last year in Columbia. It’s a must-win situation for Richt’s club, as they try to avoid an 0-2 start before heading to Arkansas the following week.

Points will definitely be at a premium in the old fashioned Southern slobber knocker.

Tough games like this remain the great thing about SEC football.  It's extremely hard to find obvious wins on anyone's schedule.
