ACC Daily Fever: N.C. State's Loss Gets 2009 ACC Football Off To Poor Start

This one will sting awhile.

North Carolina State was in a great position to move the program forward, but instead flopped on national television with a 7-3 home loss against South Carolina.

The Wolfpack looked intimidated on offense all night, as the Gamecocks (without three key defensive linemen) constantly put pressure on quarterback Russell Wilson. Fans outside of the Swampland Footprint get tired of hearing about “SEC speed” on defense, but it was a key factor in the game.

The expectations in Raleigh were for Tom O’Brien’s team to start out in 2009 like they ended the 2008 season, but they reverted back to the squad that began 2-6 last year.

They will have a chance to build momentum the next two weeks against Murray State and Gardner-Webb, but N.C. State (and the ACC) whiffed on a solid opportunity Thursday night.

For the ACC's sake, Virginia Tech needs to have a better showing in Atlanta against Alabama or else the ACC will already be looking towards 2010 after week one of the 2009 season.
