ACC Daily Fever: Miami's Brutal Opening Month May Affect Shannon's Future

Posted: Sep 02, 2009

ACC Daily Fever is the top ACC story of the day. Disagree? Let us know.

In a recent interview, Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt says he’s in confident in Randy Shannon’s leadership and that the brutal opening schedule provides an opportunity to show where the program is going.

The progress of the Hurricanes under Shannon will be measured early as they battle Florida State (their in state and conference rival), Georgia Tech & Virginia Tech (two ACC programs that finished ahead of Miami in 2008), and national contender Oklahoma - all in their first month.

This schedule would challenge even the most stable of college football teams, and Miami has yet to reach a stable point under Shannon.  He's recruited well, unlike Larry Coker before him, but Shannon's on the field results have been mixed.

The 12-13 start to his head coaching career, much of the fan base is in limbo on whether Shannon can lead the ‘Canes back to national prominence. How Miami reacts to the four-game opening gauntlet will says a lot about the future of the program and Shannon as well.
