SEC Daily Fever: The Gamecock Spotlight Shines on Garcia in South Carolina

It’s nothing new for Steve Spurrier to seem upset with the play of his quarterbacks. Even when Florida was lighting up SEC scoreboards, his signal callers always seemed about one play away from being pulled out of the game.

But with the news that Stephen Garcia was “very average” in the Gamecocks’ fourth scrimmage, you have to wonder if the ole Ball Coach has some legitimate concerns. Trying to improve on a 15-17 SEC record in four seasons, Spurrier knows he must get quality play from Garcia if things are going to get turned around in Columbia.

It's an old but true adage - success in college football tends to lie in the quality of QB play.  Amazingly, QB play has been Spurrier's achilles heel since arriving in Columbia.

Spurrier's offensive schemes show a signal caller no mercy.  If the player can't handle it, he will be exposed early and often.

Everyone is looking at 2009 as Spurrier's most important season with the Gamecocks.  We can't see it turning out well without Garcia, or someone else stepping up and solidifying the QB position.
