Delbert McClinton is Back and in Fine Form

Delbert McClinton has a new record out called Acquired Taste. The album was produced by Don Was and features the guitar work of the late Stephen Bruton. He also dedicated the album to the memory of Stephen, as well as his brother Randall, Danny Petraitis and Poodie Locke, with the quote "It was always' Poodie's show, Willie just drew the crowd."

Look for my review coming soon. Meanwhile you might want to vist my archived interview with Delbert, where he talks about, among other things, being labeled by record companies.

 

"I have always looked at it like there is music you like and don’t like. Corporate record companies had to put these things into categories. For example when I won that Grammy three years ago, it was for contemporary blues. These people will put you into a category and you could stay there for the rest of your life. I kept them perpetually in a tither because they didn’t know what to do with it."

 

Oh. And there's a track on the album called "Willie." I can't wait to hear that one.

Love the guy and his music. I Spent a few minutes talking with him after a show at Freebird Live in Jax Beach a few years ago. What talent and super nice guy. My wive's favorite song is Sandy Beaches!

Delbert does one of my favorite songs.... "B Movie Box Car Blues"!!!!! "With two girls in a light blue Desoto · One's name was Jane, the other was plain · But they both had racing motors" I have his "Live at Austin City Limits" CD. Good stuff......
