One of the annual events I look forward to each year is the Winters Brothers Band Southern Summer Jam. Me and my friend Scott Greene have been going every Father’s Day weekend for many a year now, and this weekend, The Winters will present the 30th and final jam.
Hard to believe the tradition will be coming to an end, but the guys have had some stellar jams over the years. In summers before I started attending, they had guests that ranged from Charlie Daniels to Taz DiGregorio to George McCorkle.
I have been blessed to be given the opportunity by Dennis and Lynda to perform acoustic at every jam I have attended. One summer the special guest was Skynyrd’s Ed King, and before he joined the WBB to nail some Skynyrd classics, Ed was kind enough to join me on an acoustic set. It was a blast.
One summer I did my acoustic set accompanied by Dennis and Donnie Winters, Tommy Crain and Eddie Stone, wrapping up with “Will The Circle Be Unbroken,” accompanied by those guys as well as the lovely Southern Belles.
That jam was one for the books. Tommy Crain and The Crosstown Allstars and The Winters Brothers Band both just burned the barn that night man. And the end jam was nothing short of stellar.
Of course, I have always loved the WBB, and they always give 110 percent at the jams, along with Uncle Zak and all the regular jammers.
This jam is set to be something very special. It will happen this Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Nolensville, Tennessee. Details are on the front page at wintersbrothersband.com.
This jam will feature Donnie Winters, David "Spig" Davis, Billy Hester, Casey Winters, The Southern Belles, Jamie Laritz, Michael Buffalo Smith (with Don Swensen of Rebel Storm, Donnie Winters, Mark McAfee and Steven Greene), The Jeffs, Naomi Mirkin, Tay Humphrey, The Dublin City Ramblers, Sweetwater, Atomic Boogie, writers rounds and many, many more special guests.
Sounds like fun, huh? Hope to see y’all there.
Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.

Wish I could be there, I had always hoped to get there some time but never have had the opportunity where my schedule meshed. Hate to see traditions lapse and I have really liked the Winters Brothers since I first heard them open for CDB back in the 70s. Be looking forward to your report, have a great time and a great gig!
