Just Thinkin' 'Bout Carolina College Football On a Tuesday Evening

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, us Southern boys love our music, but we also love our sports. Whether it be NASCAR, pro rasslin’, baseball, round ball, or our number one, you guessed it, football. Now, as for the Buffalo, he has been watching football for many a year, having actually been a die hard fan of my alma mater  James F. Byrnes High School, many years before they became the number one team in the nation with their own product endorsements and jumbo-tron. I also spent several years as a sports writer, covering the games from the sidelines. Talk about good times.

Now in South Carolina, we have two schools. And please, don’t get ‘em mixed up. We have the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, the school I attended; and we have the Clemson Tigers, the school my step-kids taught me to love over the past fifteen or so years.

Much like pro-ball, I like more than one team. Hell, I just love a good game. In college ball I have been known to root for everyone from the Gators to the Bulldogs to the Tarheels, and oh yeah, Bama, but nine times out of ten, I am gonna have to pull for the Carolina teams.

Now, I was glad to see Bowden leave Clemson. He just didn’t seem to be “gettin’ ‘er done.” And Coach Swinney will make a good head coach I believe. I mean, so far, so good. Just my opinion.

The Tiger/Gamecock rivalry is as old as Grandma Moses, and those of us who grew up here have seen Clemson dominate the state contests over the years. Of course, there’s always next year.

I am sure some of you are saying, “Why are you even writing about football if you don’t have a singular allegiance to one particular team?” To that I say, “Mind your own beeswax, Bubba.” I mean, you can like girls without marrying just one, right? Why can’t I like the pigskin thang without choosing sides all the time?

I’m going to get me a beer an listen to an old Skynyrd LP. Y’all do me a solid and read the Tribal Fever article on our South Carolina teams.
