(Columbia/Legacy)
I remember back in the 1980’s when Biograph came out. I thought that was the definitive boxed set on Dylan, and it most likely was at the time, but the new Dylan set takes the prize today as the ultimate Bob Dylan collection.
The set includes three discs, packed to the rim with Dylan’s all time best music, from 1962’s “Song to Woody” to “Masters of War,” “My Back Pages,” “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Maggies Farm,” “I Shall Be Released,”and “Hurricane,” Dylan’s incredible song written in defense of boxer Rubin Carter.
Also included is the almost theatrical story-song “Brownsville Girl,” co-written with famed playwright Sam Shepard, and recent hits, “Silvio,” “Under the Red Sky,” and “When The Deal Goes Down.”
It’s four decades of Dylan’s influential creativity in one deluxe boxed set. A true piece of rock and roll and folk music history from one of music’s most enduring figures.
