I have really enjoyed getting to know Darren Brothers as the lead guitarist for The Winters Brothers Band over the past few years, and I always enjoy his playing style. The guy has some real old school Southern rock and blues influences that run deep. That’s why I was really excited about hearing his solo project.
Darren and his band dish up an impressive set of nine tunes here, including an apt cover of The Winters Brothers’ “Smokey Mountain Log Cabin Jones,” and one funky instrumental. Darren gets a little help from his friends on “Shadow,” with Dennis Winters on lead vocal an Jack Pearson (The Allman Brothers Band) on B-3 and guitar. An outstanding track.
“No Pie Annie” is another good one, with shades of Gov’t Mule hovering around in it’s aura. Fact is, the whole album is a lot of fun, with some real good guitar picking and a whole lot of Southern style. I can dig it.
