The Hadden Sayers story represents the mean life struggling artists endure such as bad deals, neglect and poverty. The 13 songs on Hard Dollar proves Sayers prefers to undertake matters in the right way, not the easy way.
The Texas born Sayers was recently recruited to play on Ruth Foster's latest studio album. Hard Dollar indicates Sayers may be on the way to brighter lights. The rollicking "Take Me Back To Texas" opens Hard Dollar with a razor rock & roll sound. "All I Want Is You" features deft guitar licks from Sayers on this laid back tune.
"Back To The Blues" travels a quiet musical path that slows the listener's heart beat. "Inside Out Boogie" counts as a well-constructed tune on the lighthearted side of the blues. "Lap of Luxury" contains a tight-wrapped sound that balances on the math of music with Sayers' compelling voice guiding the song's story.
"Flat Black Automobile" sounds like a sonic R & B sound infused into an old country song. "Sweet Texas Girls" counts as one of Hard Dollar's finest tunes. This acoustic-based composition stands out on this collection--great song. "Crush On You" contains chunky rock & roll riffs that intensify the song's solid beat.
"Ain't Coming Around No More" emits a funk only heard in real juke joints and mean-ass West Texas bars. A cover of Lightning Hopkins' "Hippy Getaway" brings a smile to the face. "Burnin' Up", another great song, really highlights Sayers' guitar power, and it's clear why his six-string talents are sought after. "Room 155" contains a slow burning musical landscape that takes you straight to a river of fire.
"Money Shot" closes Hard Dollar with a psychedelic-blues instrumental that alone pays for the disc. Hadden Sayers earns his money...
