The Unchained Tour of Georgia Documentary

On Monday, before the evening performance of The Unchained Tour of Georgia, I spoke with author George Dawes Green about the documentary revolving around this tour to promote independent bookstores. Green revealed to me the ongoing filming process for this singular tour:

“The filming is done by a documentary film crew that we put together for this tour. We’re making a documentary. They’ve been with us through all the adventures—even rebuilding the bus engine, which has really been exciting and strange at the same time. They’ll be with us the whole tour. It’s all been great. NPR is sending someone down next week to record and make a one-hour show for Georgia Public Radio. With this documentary we’re working on we’ll see if someone like A & E is interested, but we’re filming everything.”

Since the tour began this week, developments on this story occur with each tour stop. Another raconteur on The Unchained Tour, Chad Faries, told me Monday about this rare gathering of world-class raconteurs.

‘If you’re behind the scenes on this tour you realize how much work goes into making that hour and a half performance work. There’s never a dull moment. Storytellers tell stories. Four will tell stories each night. These people make storytelling look easy, but it takes a while to get there. Most of these people have been telling stories for years and years…”

Along with author and The Moth creator Green, other artists on The Unchained Tour of Georgia include Tina McElroy Ansa, Wanda Bullard, Chad Faries, Dan Kennedy, Edgar Oliver and Juliet Hope Wayne.
