RIP Charlie Louvin
The great Charlie Louvin lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this morning. He died at his home in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. He was 83. Charlie and his brother Ira were known as the Louvin Brothers, and rank as one of country music’s finest duos on record. The Louvin Brothers influenced everyone from Gram Parsons to The Black Crowes, and albums like Satan Is Real contend as one of American music’s most resonating albums.
Charlie Louvin remained active and vital musically until the very end. He recently released a live recording from the 2009 Gram Parsons Guitar Pull. I had the privilege of interviewing Mr. Louvin in 2007, and he was one of the nicest people I’ve ever questioned.
Charlie gave me advice that day I’ll never forget at a very dark time in my life. He will be missed. Rest assured, Charlie Louvin remains insured beyond the grave. Listen to the music...
On behalf of everyone at Swampland, I’d like to send out condolences to the Louvin Family. The man is a hero of the highest order around here. The flag flies at half-mast.
In The Pines,
James Calemine
