Meet John Lee of "When The Buddha Met Bubba"

Posted: Oct 20, 2009

Writing under the pseudonym of Richard "Dixie" Hartwell, John Lee, the best-selling author of The Flying Boy: Healing the Wounded Man, has published his first novel.  When the Buddha Met Bubba (Turner Publishing Company) is a delightful romp to enlightenment through the backwoods south.

Lee, who has published sixteen other books of non-fiction Including one of my favorite handbooks Writing the Body, said that he wanted to write the kind of book he had always dreamed about.  "While I know many of you will not be interested in this less than sophisticated spiritual comedy I trust some of you will. It is a leap for me to be sure but like the poet Marvin Bell says, 'Have a lot of nerve. Fall down big, make a big splash. Why not?' ...When The Buddha Met Bubba is a whimsical, fantasy that deals with the integrity and surrender that comes when a likeable redneck (Bubba) meets his magical mentor, Pu Tai (one of the many names for The Buddha), as they set off on an unusual journey....add a little humor and true Buddhist/Christian compassion and you end up with a quirky novel that is not only different but just plain fun."

John Lee's highly innovative work in the fields of anger management and emotional regression has placed him in high demand as a consultant, teacher, trainer, coach and speaker. His contributions in the fields of recovery, relationships, men's issues, spirituality, parenting and creativity have brought him national attention for over twenty years. His non-traditional approach to therapy has been taught worldwide with great success, and his lectures have been branded as "hilariously entertaining, deeply compassionate, yet filled with ‘tell it like it is!’” Lee's Mentone, Alabama Men’s Conference  (co-hosted with Robert Bly), is in its sixteenth year and draws participants from around the world. Prior to becoming a writer, best-selling author, life coach and personal consultant, Lee served as a professor at the University of Texas and Alabama . His most recent book of non-fiction is The Anger Solution. Lee lives with his wife in Alabama. You can read more about him on his web site.
