Billy C Farlow, Delta Blues, and More News from Elk River

Well, we have survived yet another holiday weekend on Elk RIver. This weekend we did not burn down the hillside,  but we did have to pump out the septic tank. Oh joy, oh rapture. Just the way I wanted to spend the fourth of July.

My sister and her husband, blues musician Bily C Farlow who is our guest reviewer this week, had the pleasure of pumping out their septic tank last October when they had a houseful of relatives from California, Costa Rica ,and Argentina. As you can see by the photo,. my daughter and I were much more festive when it was their problem! There is no photographic record of our most recent septic soiree. This year my daughter and her husband were deep sea fishing in the gulf with my son, so they escaped this trial by water.

We have always jokingly referred to those of us to live on Elk River as Elk River Trash. Now we do not find the appellation quite so humorous. In addition to sewage problems, we have been battling either raccoons or possums in our garbage cans for nearly two months. To move to a more pleasant subject, I am honored, once again, to bring to Swampland  the inimitable Billy C Farlow, blues musician extraordinaire, who recently returned from a tour in the south of France. On this occasion Billy C comes to us as a guest writer for Swampland and the reviewer of Ted Gioia's Delta Blues. We hope BC will be a regular on Swampland and share with us some of his experiences with Mercy Band in France as well as some chapters from his autobiography Music and Mayhem: The Life of Billy C Farlow.
