I was fortunate to have known Poodie for a short time. He was the kind of man who took to people and suddenly he felt like one of your best friends. He was a kind, generous and friendly man (add rowdy and funny to that list). He reminded me of a modern day Santa Claus. When I was traveling with the Boxmasters on one of the tours with Willie Nelson, I didn't know very many of the musicians. Poodie was always the first to spot me coming out of the cafeteria with my tray, and he'd yell over - "come on over here, Danny, and sit with us!" He had a way of smoothing out the sharp edges, and always supplied a positive slant on the challenge of the day. Thank you, Poodie, for including me as a friend.
