Friends of New Orleans Presents Tipitina’s Foundation Five Year Anniversary
7/29/08
An All-Star lineup will perform two shows to celebrate Tipitina’s Foundation Five Year anniversary in Aspen, Colorado, and Jackson Hole Wyoming. On August 27, 2008, at The Belly Up in Aspen, Colorado, New Orleans musical royalty—The Voice of the Wetlands—led by Tab Benoit, George Porter Jr., Cyril Neville, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Johnny Vidacovich, Anders Osborne, Waylon Thibodeaux and Jumpin’ Johnny Sansone will perform.
A special performance by The Original Meters with special guests Widespread Panic’s John Hermann, Walter “Wolfman” Washington and Henry Butler will also be on this performance outing. Other performers include New Orleans Brass All-Stars, Soul Rebel Brass Band, The Wild Tchoupitoulas Mardi Gras Indians, Lauren Bennett and Mary McBride.
These performances are part of a week-long effort to recognize the 3rd anniversary of hurricanes Katrina and Rita and bring attention to the ongoing recovery of the Gulf Coast Region.
The same line-up will perform on August 29, 2008, at the Jackson Hole Center for the Arts. These performances will follow the August 24th Democratic National Convention where the artists will perform for the official delegate welcome party and a benefit at The Fillmore Auditorium.
Over the last five years The Tipitina’s Foundation—a non-profit organization—has donated over 1.8 million dollars worth of instruments to over 2,000 students in 39 New Orleans area schools. Through these efforts the foundation is preserving the music culture of New Orleans.
Friends of New Orleans—a non-profit organization founded by Walter Issacson and James Carville—provides a vehicle for people in the U.S. and abroad who care about the region to declare their support.
These events constitute a real force of musical history and charitable intentions. For more information, contact:
