Mystery & Manners Investigates The Mojo of The Dickinson Family & The Black Crowes' Voodoo

"Don't bring down the judgement on us all."
-Jim Dickinson
It's getting late on this Tuesday evening and I thought I'd send off a few lines of communication...By late tomorrow evening my interview with legendary Memphis musician/songwriter/producer/shaman Jim Dickinson will be up and ready to read.
In this interview Jim Dickinson discusses recording with Sam Phillips at Sun Records, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Albert King, Ronnie Hawkins, Duane Allman, Aretha Franklin, and Eddie Hinton as well as other essential southern music mythology and glorious facts. Dickinson also talks about his sons' band the North Mississippi All-Stars as well as Luther joining The Black Crowes.
On Sunday evening I attended The Black Crowes' show in their hometown of Atlanta at The Tabernacle, and they sounded phenomenal. The Tabernacle proves an intimate setting and a good place to see the band. The Crowes performed their new Warpaint in its entirety which demonstated how Luther Dickinson fits perfectly into the band. The Crowes also played a couple older songs ("Sister Luck" and the great 'b-side' "Waitin' Guilty") of their own as well as covers by The Band ("Rocking Chair"), Delaney Bramlett ("Poor Elijah") and Moby Grape ("Hey Grandma").
The Crowes' recent string of one night only Warpaint shows prove they will be a force to be reckoned with this year. Stay tuned to Manners And Manners for Black Crowes tour updates, news, live shows, and adventures when they return to the States (after a tour of Australia...they haven't been there since 1992) in the Spring, as well as a larger, definitive essay on the Atlanta troubadors...
The Crowes sold out their March 20 Los Angeles show in minutes. VH1 is premiering the 60-minute cut of The Black Crowes Unplugged this Saturday, March 15, at 9 and re-airing it at Midnight as well as 4:30 PM, Sunday, March 16. Catch this brilliant musical portrait of the Black Crowes in 2008...it's only just beginning...
Prepare to travel into the heart of southern music with Jim Dickinson late tomorrow night. Until then,
